Organisation profile:

Community Health Initiatives-Uganda is a Community Based organization established in 2019 and registered in 2021 by a group of volunteers after realizing the need to address health barriers to community development to enhance community cooperation for improved health and well-being conditions. It is registered by the district local government under registration number MYG/DNGOMC/011 with the board of directors that comprises of 5 members and operating its own bank account.

Principle Activities:

  • Community care and support as well as community development.

HIV/AIDS Awareness, Prevention, and Education

This activity involves sensitizing communities about HIV/AIDS transmission, prevention methods, and the importance of early testing and treatment. It promotes safe practices, combats stigma and discrimination, and empowers individuals with knowledge to make informed health decisions.

Menstrual health and hygiene management.

This involves training adolescent girls in menstrual health and hygiene management who help us reach out their fellow peers with MHH messages, carrying out education sessions for young girls about menstruation, good hygiene practices and addressing any stigma or misinformation surrounding it as well as supplying sanitary pads.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

This focuses on awareness creation and improving access to safe water, sanitation facilities and hygiene practices to enhance public health, reduce the spread of water borne diseases and empower communities to take active role in WASH.

Education and OVCs integration

We integrate education programs and vulnerable children initiatives to improve access to education and supporting the overall well-being of these children. This integration addresses challenges and barriers to access their education like poverty,lack of resources (Books , School uniforms, sanitary products for girls etc)and stigma that hinders OVC's ability to attend school.

Sexual and Reproductive health and Rights

We train individuals within the community and provide peer support and education as well as helping others to make informed decisions about their sexual health, organize outreach programs, workshops and awareness campaigns to educate the community about SRHR including contraception, STIs, gender equality, advocacy for improved SRHR policies and services at local level working with government officials and community leaders and addressing specific like teenage pregnancies, unsafe abortions and gender based violence.

Community health care and support as well as community development.

Our focus here is on areas which are underserved by conducting outreach and education programs on health issues such as hygiene, sanitation, family planning and diseases prevention as well as promoting healthy behaviours and lifestyles and maternal and child health. We also improve the well-being of community members by encouraging them to actively participate in decision making processes, providing training them with leadership, planning and financial management and providing support and counselling to vulnerable groups.

Health Education and Promotion.

We carry out health education and promotion programs tailored to specific community needs and health issues like hygiene, sanitation, disease prevention etc to improve community health outcomes. This is done by carrying out health education and promotion campaigns, organizing community dialogues through meetings, workshops and discussions within the community to raise awareness, share information and encourage behavior change, Developing IEC materials, advocacy, community engagement, collaboration with other partners and conducting workshops to enhance knowledge, skills and capacity building in areas like hygiene practices, disease prevention and basic healthcare.

Vulnerable communities

Include Children, youths, Adolescent girls and young women, pregnant mothers, elderly people, malnourished people and people who are I'll or Immune compromised.

Disadvantaged Communities

Include people suffering from a combination of economic, health and environmental burdens which includes poverty, high levels of unemployment, air and water pollution, emergencies etc.
